Purpose and Primary Responsibilities

Our Facilities:

Did you know JIYSC is the only private soccer club in town who owns their soccer facilities? It’s a great privilege to have such an asset, and below, is information to help you find our two soccer complexes.

JIYSC Main Complex (871 Ft. Johnson Road): This facility is where our U4 to U12 players train and play (some U11 and U12 teams will also use the Bayview Complex). It is also located in front of the Eaglewood Retreat neighborhood, between James Island High School and Harborview Road.

JIYSC Bayview Complex (also called The Annex): This facility is located across from James Island Charter High School. The Bayview Complex is split in two pieces, with JIYSC fields occupying the left side of the property, and the City of Charleston to the right. Both the concession stand and bathrooms are shared by both JIYSC and the City

As you know, our club relies on parent volunteers to be successful. As outlined in the JIYSC Volunteer Policy, every family is required to volunteer at least 4 hours to support the club or pay a $100 waiver fee.

Important change: when performing your volunteer commitment, you need to report your volunteer hours to your team manager or coach if there is not a team manager. Team managers will track their team families‘ hours and at the end of the season, submit one report to the Volunteer Coordinator.

You do not need to wait to be assigned or sign up for a specific duty. Take it upon yourself to meet your hours. If you see a need around the fields, meet it, fix it, take care of it. Many examples of field needs are listed below.

Below are the volunteer opportunities which will be available spring 2012:

Trash pick-up and Bathroom clean-up WEEKLY- need volunteers for Bayview and the Main Complexes.

On a weekly basis, the trash cans around the Main and Annex fields need to be emptied into the dumpsters in the parking lots of the Main and Annex fields. The small recycle bins need to be emptied into the larger recycle bins by the dumbster at the Main fields as well. In addition, the bathrooms at the Main fields need to be swept and the trash cans emptied. The soap and hand towels need to be replaced weekly.

All of the supplies are kept in a Rubbermaid box behind the concession stand at Main fields. The Rubbermaid box is outside and can be accessed at all times. If you can’t find something, ask around for a board member who can open the stand for you. We are there regularly working on things or watching our own kids play.

Trash pick-up and Bathroom clean-up SATURDAYS for Main Complex

On Saturdays, the trash cans around the Main field need to be emptied into the dumpster in the parking lot. In addition, the bathroom trash cans need to be emptied and hand towels need to be replaced.

All of the supplies are kept in Rubbermaid box behind the concession stand at Main fields. The Rubbermaid box is outside and can be accessed at all times.

Monday Mop
A weekly mopping of the concession stand on Mondays is required by the Health Department. The Concession stand will be open at 6:00 pm on Monday night. Mop and cleaning products will be in storage closet in concession stand.

Concession stand
The concession stand is open on Saturday’s during the Micro season and each day during tournaments. We need volunteers to operate the concession stand (cooking hot dogs, pouring drinks, selling items, etc) We like to have a minimum of 2 people working the concession stand at all times that it is open. Normal hours of the concession stand are 8am to noon, but it is open longer during busy game-day weekends and tournaments.

Volunteer Opportunities

JIYSC Volunteer Program Purpose

James Island Youth Soccer Club is a volunteer soccer organization, controlled by the private membership from our families.  Due to the strength of our parent-base of volunteers, JIYSC is able to offer a soccer experience for all ages and skill levels, while keeping soccer affordable.

The purpose of establishing a volunteer hour requirement is two-fold.  One, the Club believes there is no better sense of ownership and understanding of the responsibilities involved with running such a large organization, than taking part in the many events and services which JIYSC promotes each year.

Secondly, our volunteers make it possible to offer training to the Micro Soccer teams at no charge, afford JIYSC to use proceeds from tournaments to improve facilities, and provide scholarships to those players and families with a financial need.  For every dollar our volunteer parent saves JIYSC, the club is able to put 100% of the money saved to work in a manner which improves our soccer community.

The Volunteer Sign-In book is maintained in the concession stand.

In order for the Club’s Volunteer Coordinator to accurately keep track of each family’s volunteer hours, please update the date and time you volunteered in the Volunteer Sign-In book.  Concession duties are provided inside the concession stand.  On days when the concession stand may not be open, trash bags and other supplies are kept in a plastic bin on the backside of the concession stand.
